Frequently Asked Questions
What does S.E.E.R. stand for?S.E.E.R. is the abbreviation for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. This is the system used to rate the efficiency of air conditioning and heat pump condensing units. The S.E.E.R. system of rating assigns a number to correspond with the efficiency level of the unit. The standard efficient unit is rated at 10 S.E.E.R. The next "step up" in the efficiency rating system would be a 12 S.E.E.R. unit. This system was developed by the federal government in cooperation with manufacturers to aid in energy conservation. Back to TopWhat does A.F.U.E. stand for?A.F.U.E. is the abbreviation for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. This is the rating system used to rate the efficiency of gas furnaces. The AFUE rating of a gas furnace reflects the efficiency in which the furnace converts fuel to energy. The AFUE rating system uses a percentage figure. The standard efficient gas furnace is rated at 80%. This basically means that 80% of the fuel is used to heat your house while the remaining 20 % escapes up the chimney or flue. A higher efficiency rating would be 90%. (having only a 10% energy loss). Back to TopWhat is Puron refrigerantPuron refrigerant
replaces R-22 with proven efficiency and comfort. R-22 will slowly cease
to be produced. The advent of Puron was brought on by the environmental
concerns and the effect of R-22 on our environment. Refrigerant
and HVAC equipment manufactures collaborated to produce a refrigerant
that was environmentally friendly. The result was Puron
refrigerant. Very soon, you will be faced with a decision about your
comfort. As the costs associated R-22 rise and supplies of the
refrigerant are reduced, you will need to either continue servicing your
current systems, or you can improve your home's comfort and energy
efficiency with a unit using the environmentally sound Puron
refrigerant. What is a Heat Pump?A Heat Pump is a form of heat that utilizes your outdoor air conditioning unit coupled with an indoor fan section as a source of heat. The outdoor portion operates like a standard air conditioning unit in cool mode. Refrigerant is evaporated in the indoor coil located at the indoor air handling unit, sub-cooling the coil. As the air moves across the evaporator coil it is cooled and moisture is removed. It is during the heat mode that the heat pump is unique. A heat pump is equipped with a reversing valve at the outdoor unit that reverses the flow of refrigerant. The indoor coil is now used to condense the refrigerant causing the temperature of the coil to rise producing heat. The air is then moved across the coil, just as it is in the cooling mode to now be heated rather then cooled. A heat pump is powered by electricity. Heat pumps are widely used in this area as an alternative to gas and oil heating. Back to TopIf I need service, what will it cost? Our labor rate is $75 per hour.
